Job Title:Title I Nonpublic School Teacher Tutor

Position Function: Nonpublic School TeacherTutors will facilitate collaborative small group sessions to assist lower performing students in reading or math subject areas to build capacity and increase achievement in these core subjects. Tutorial will take place in small groups using different programs and curriculum.As a tutor, you are an active participant in the learning, growth, and personal development of students.

Essential Performance Responsibilities:

  • Conducts tutorial sessions that underscore the principle of collaborative learning and the practice of students teaching other students through discussion of class and text notes
  • Determines from student testing, worksheets, notes, and discussions the reading or math concepts that need to be the focus of tutorial sessions.
  • Reinforce the idea that learning extends far beyond mere studying to form basis for long term accomplishments.
  • Assist students in reading and math subject areas, by being familiar with materials and classroom resources as well as independent intervention programs.
  • Assist in teaching study skills and other aspects of classroom preparation.
  • Take responsibility for the tone and atmosphere of the tutoring group.
  • Acknowledge the individuality of all students and work to develop their academic and personal pride.
  • Develop a resource file of enrichment/intervention materials for use in tutorial sessions and continued learning at home.
  • Communicate regularly with classroom teachers, building leadership and WPS Title I Department regarding student progress and areas of concern.
  • Sets an example and provide expectations for students to follow.


Equipment: This position may require the ability to use SMART boards and iPads in addition to basic office equipment such as computers, copiers, scanners, and fax machine.Must always comply with USD 259's guidelines for equipment use.

Physical and Mental Demands:

•Works in standard office and school building environments.

•Ability to work outdoors during outdoor student activities.

  • Must be able to respond rapidly in emergency situations.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

•Ability to communicate both verbally and written with others inside and outside of the organization for the purpose of giving and obtaining information.

•Ability to communicate effectively with a supervisor when their discretion is needed.

  • Ability to perform as an effective team player.
  • Ability to plan, organize, make decisions, and prioritize work to meet the daily demands of the building.
  • Exhibit a professional manner and a positive attitude.


•Use good judgment to make decisions on recurring assignments.

•Display a significant degree of professionalism and confidentiality.

•Ability to conform to proper standards of professional dress and appearance.

  • Ability to work with in small groups and/or individually with elementary and/or middle school students.
  • Ability to become familiar with intervention material as needed.
  • Ability to conduct tutorial sessions in all areas of mathematics, therefore, a strong math background is necessary.


Interrelations:

•Contact with personnel within the district and with customers and vendors.

•Will be working under the supervision of the WPS Title I Department with support from the Nonpublic school administration.

•Will be working with a diverse population requiring the ability to handle all situations with tact and diplomacy.

•Must understand and respond appropriately to customer needs and maintain a positive attitude with all customers and colleagues.

•Expected to interact with all internal and external customers in a friendly, professional manner and provide quick, responsive customer service.

Employee Punctuality and Appearance:

•Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employee's supervisor or building administrator.

•All employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image and is appropriate for their position.

Qualification Profile:

•A Certified teaching degree is required.

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
