Supervise, direct and coordinate all activities involved in sterilization of items used in the hospital under the auspices of the coordinator.

A. B. Specialized or Technical Education Required:The Supervisor of Sterile Services will have specialized OR technical training in the care and maintenance of surgical instruments. Thorough knowledge of the sterilization process is required. Management experience is preferred or demonstration of supervisory competence. Responsibilities:
1. Consult with Surgical Services Coordinator concerning management of Sterile Services. Keep Coordinator informed of activities, needs and problems.2. Organizes, directs and coordinates the functions and activities in Sterile Services.3. Interprets and implements policies and procedures and regulations in the sterilization and disinfection process.4. Continuously analyzes and evaluates sterilization control monitoring devices that monitor the parameters of sterilization..5. Plan and direct specific duties and task for Sterile Services personnel.6. Formulate work schedules to provide adequate coverage and meet needs of various departments requiring sterilization of items.7. Assists in evaluating the performance of personnel. Provide a safe environment for personnel and maintain quality of care.8. Supervises the care of unit and equipment to insure cleanliness of the environment and sterility of all products.9. Supervises the cleaning, assembly and sterilization of instrument sets and equipment.10. Keep instruments in sterile sets in good working condition by replacing defective or missing items or reporting it to the Coordinator.11. Assist in maintaining a minimum inventory of frequently used instruments to be used as replacements.12. Assist in monitoring and maintaining stock levels for selected disposable products for the operating rooms.13. Assist in monitoring and tracking sterilization, disinfection and related equipment repairs hospital wide.14. Assist in the organization of unit meetings to keep personnel informed and updated on the topics, safety, infection control, Quality Assurance, productivity and administrative requests.15. Serves as an ad hoc member of the infection control committee, in the absence of the coordinator.16. Assist in providing in-service programs for personnel as needed.17. Supervises orientation of new personnel. Assist in the provision of comprehensive programs of orientation for new personnel.18. Maintain an employment record in accordance with hospital policy. Comply with attendance policies. Adhere to acceptable dress code. Report all incidents and injuries.19. Is knowledgeable of and adhere to all local, state and federal regulations. Insure proper documentation for federal regulations. Insure proper documentation for employees.20. Maintain requirements for accreditation.21. Assists in maintaining Quality Assurance requirements.22. Maintain professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, etc. and professional affiliations.23. Performs other duties as necessary.24. Follows North Oaks Health System's compliance programs and all federal and state regulatory guidelines.
