Overview

The Safety and Training Specialist is responsible for implementing Health and Safety programs for the Hammond Facility in partnership with Plant Management, the F&B Business Unit, and the Corporate EH&S team, in support of all employees. This role involves leading and facilitating both safety and training initiatives across various departments to drive organizational success.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with site management in executing Occupational Health & Safety priorities, metrics, goals and requirements.

  • Provide Occupational Health & Safety technical guidance and support to site management to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

  • Keep management apprised of Occupational Health & Safety progress and significant developments on key site projects.

  • Evaluate facility Occupational Health & Safety conditions, assess risks and develop appropriate corrective-action plans and budgets to address deficiencies in comparison to regulations and internal policy/protocol.

  • Manage all Occupational Health & Safety aspects (technical, regulatory/third party interface, reporting, permitting, compliance, financial, administrative, etc.) of site projects and manage site Occupational Health & Safety permits in compliance with relevant regulatory programs and corporate policies.

  • Lead investigations in responding to significant incidents and government requests/notices.

  • Interface with Occupational Health & Safety regulatory agencies as needed.

  • Drive communication and involvement to develop continuous improvement plans.

  • Analyze and communicate site Occupational Health & Safety performance against expectations, provide feedback, establish and track required actions to improve performance.

  • Provide leadership & support for training programs to build Occupational Health & Safety technical, management and leadership skills of site leadership team and employees.

  • Support all third-party Loss Prevention Audits and track recommendations to closure.

  • Support all tasks associated with the Graham Operating System (GOS).

  • Spend a majority of the time on the plant floor leading employee engagement on all safety practice, driving safety best practices and identifying and leading improvements needed.

  • Development of onboarding and on-the-job training material for new hires

  • Update and maintain centralized electronic training files. Generate monthly training status reports highlighting training gaps by employee, shift, and departments.

  • Facilitate monthly meetings with HR Manager and functional department managers to review training completion and plan for upcoming training requirements.

  • Responsible for conducting specialized training and certifications such as fork lift, scissor lift, lock out tag out, etc.

  • Perform site administrator responsibilities for Learning Management System (Litmos) to include assigning training by employee / job title. Update and communicate training status by supervisor and department.

  • Develop, update, and maintain work instructions and pay for skills materials as needed

  • Work in conjunction with the Human Resources Manager and functional department managers to develop an annual Plant training agenda to promote employee development, engagement and retention.

  • Manage external training resources for the site such as First Aid Training, Hearing Conservation, and assist supervisors with safety incident and accident investigations.

  • Performs other duties and cross training as assigned.

  • Limited travel may be required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor degree with a concentration in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental or other related technical or scientific discipline.

  • 3+ years of experience in managing Occupational Health and Safety programs

  • 3+ years of experience in a training role is preferred.

  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment is preferred.

  • Experience with computer systems, internet, email and Microsoft applications.

  • Experience with Learning Management Systems, such as LITMOS, is preferred.

  • Ability to maintain regular, predictable, and punctual attendance.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication, including the ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers.

  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service.

  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.

  • Collaborates well with others, proactively contributes to group objectives; volunteers to help others.

  • Ability to travel as necessary

  • Ability to influence others outside of your direct control.

  • Flexibility to work non-traditional business hours as needed. Our locations operate 24/7 and the ideal candidate will have the occasional need to be in the facility during non-traditional business hours.

Compensation Statement

The expected salary range for the position described in this posting is made in accordance with the legal mandates of certain jurisdictions within the United States. The final agreed-upon compensation is based on individual qualifications and experience.
