RECEPTIONIST - HOSPITAL COMMUNICATIONS

Responsible for handling all hospital calls in a timely, efficient and courteous manner.

High School Diploma or equivalent is required.

Sufficient previous experience in the area of customer relations in a hospital or similar setting preferred

Responsibilities:

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

1. Screen calls and takes messages when appropriate.

2. Maintain confidentiality regarding patients, physicians, employees, infection control procedures and quality assurance procedures.

3. Maintain established hospital and departmental policies and procedures, safety and infection control procedures, and quality assurance procedures.

4. Attend in-services and other required meetings.

5. Use the computer for inquiries regarding physician information and patient information.

6. Maintain the policies for nondisclosure of information regarding NPP (Confidental) patients

7. General cleaning duties of the work place, including daily disinfectant of all equipment.

8. Notify appropriate personnel of equipment malfunctions including telephone, beeper system, paging system, alarm system and computer system.

9. Document errors and occurrences and route to the supervisor immediately.

10. Assist in training new personnel.

11. Document all long distance calls placed and received.

12. Work other shifts when necessary.

13. Assist in the care of departmental equipment and supplies.

14. Provide assistance guidance and directions to visitors, patients, employees, and physicians. Ascertain the nature of their business, assist and direct to various locations in the hospital when appropriate. Call for an escort when necessary.

15. Receive messages, flowers, and other items. Verify that the patient has not been discharged and arrange for delivery of items to patient or appropriate personnel when necessary.

17. Maintain accurate sign-in logs for registration purposes for all patients.

18. Provide wheelchair assistance for patients.

19 Prepare religion census for Clergy and Eucharistic Minister programs.

20. Initiate all in-house beeping and overhead paging during information desk hours.

21. Work Tower Lobby information desk.

25. Take messages from ICU patient's family members and fax to ICU nurses for their response.

26. Perform all other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

27. Follows North Oaks Health System's compliance program and all federal and state regulatory guidelines.

28. Demonstrate competency in age-specific criteria as applicable to job scope.
