Instructor Of Middle And Secondary Education

Southeastern Louisiana University's Department of Teaching and Learning within the College of Education invites applications for the position of Instructor of Middle and Secondary Education (non-tenure track). The appointment begins January 2026. This position is not remote and requires a full-time, on-site presence in Hammond, LA.

Required Qualifications:

  • Earned at least a master's degree in middle level or secondary education or a master's degree in education with evidence of successful work experience in middle level or secondary education or educator preparation.
  • Experience in middle level or secondary educator preparation.
  • Experience with organizing and managing educator preparation clinical practice systems.
  • Successful record of engaging in partnerships between educator preparation programs and P-12 schools/school districts.
  • Lead or support emerging initiatives within the Department as assigned by the department head, especially related to recruitment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated success in academic project management that includes multiple stakeholders.

Desired Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:

  • Develop and teach undergraduate courses in middle level and secondary education and any other discipline for which credentials are held as assigned by the department head.
  • Engage in service activities.
  • Recruit, advise, and mentor students.
  • Collaborate with faculty and community stakeholders for program improvement and partnerships.
  • Participate in program governance at the department, college, and university levels.
  • Serve on department, college, and university committees.
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with federal laws and program policy.
  • Participate in official university functions as required by the president, provost, dean, or department chair (e.g., commencement, convocation, departmental meetings, etc.).
  • Maintain a collegial relationship with peers and colleagues throughout the college and university.
  • Assist in program assessment and accreditation work.
  • Experience in face-to-face teaching, online teaching, and field-based clinical supervision.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience or demonstrated interest in making significant contributions to program improvement and innovation.
