Custodian

Summary:
A custodian in a shop environment is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and order in the
workspace, ensuring a safe and efficient working atmosphere. They perform routine cleaning tasks
such as sweeping, mopping, and sanitizing surfaces. Additionally, custodians manage waste disposal,
restock supplies, and maintain the wash rack area, ensuring equipment is properly cleaned and
stored. They may also assist with minor repairs and report any maintenance issues to the
appropriate personnel. Their role is crucial in supporting the overall productivity and safety of
the industrial shop.

Essential Duties:
• Keeps offices, building, grounds, and line shop facilities clean and orderly
• Sweeps, shovels, or vacuums loose debris or salvageable scrap into containers and removes
containers from work areas
• Inspects parts, equipment, or vehicles for cleanliness, damage, and compliance with standards
or regulations
• May make minor maintenance repairs
• Notifies supervisor regarding needed repairs
• May be required to wash trucks, trailers, and company vehicles
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
• High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
• 0-6 Months of Experience in General Labor or related field

Work Environment:
This position is often exposed to the elements and moving machinery and equipment. It is also often
exposed to grease, electrical currents, dust, dirt, chemicals and other environmental factors. This
position requires physical stamina and the ability to bend, stoop, kneel, climb, and stand for long
periods of time.
