Position Overview

A premier independent school in the New Orleans area is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Upper School History Teacher for the upcoming 2026-2027 school year. We are looking for a dedicated educator who enjoys working with young people and is committed to fostering a classroom environment rooted in academic excellence and critical thinking.

Core Responsibilities

  • Instruction: Lead Civics courses for grades 9-12; ability to teach additional history or social science electives is highly preferred.
  • Curriculum Excellence: Implement rigorous, student-centered instruction and maintain a commitment to effective preparation and assessment.
  • Community Engagement: Actively participate in faculty, grade-level, and departmental meetings to support the school's mission.
  • Inclusion & Belonging: Guide students toward upholding the value in diversity of cultures, beliefs, and perspectives, and support them in navigating issues inherent in equity and justice.
  • Professional Growth: Engage in ongoing professional development and perform other duties as assigned by school leadership.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in History or a Social Science (Required).
  • Experience: Prior teaching experience at the secondary level (Preferred).
  • Advanced Standing: An advanced degree (MA, MS, or PhD) is preferred.
